Our sharp-witted and honourable hero is the young criminologist Denny Colt, who is presumed dead during an investigation and buried while in a state of suspended animation. After awakening in Wildwood Cemetery, he resolves to continue his mission by assuming the identity of a formidable new enemy of crime.
Colt continues to work secretly in the shadows, pursuing his investigations with his face concealed behind a blue mask. Only Commissioner Dolan, his long-time sweetheart Ellen and his faithful companion Ebony know the truth, while the criminal underworld is terrified by his ghostly appearance and fears him by the name of… The Spirit!
