The Pertosa-Auletta Caves are one of Italy’s most fascinating speleological complexes and represent one of the main natural attractions of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park. Formed approximately 35 million years ago, they are located about seventy kilometers from Salerno and offer a unique experience blending nature, history, and archaeology.
In addition to their extraordinary landscape value, the caves preserve important archaeological evidence that tells the story of human presence since prehistoric times, making them a site of great scientific and cultural interest.
Since 1932, the Pertosa-Auletta Caves have been open to the public, allowing visitors to explore over 3 kilometers of underground tunnels. The visit begins with a characteristic boat trip on the Negro River, a rare experience in Europe that leads visitors into the heart of the karst complex.
Along the route, you can admire spectacular stalactites and stalagmites still in formation, large natural halls, evocative limestone formations, and clear pools of water that create scenes of extraordinary beauty.
